Who does replacement work: installers, dealers, manufacturers
Replacement window projects involve three kinds of companies. Installers measure the openings and fit the new units. Dealers sell windows from one or more brands and may also install them. Manufacturers build the windows and in some cases sell and install directly. Use the brand filter to narrow the list to companies working with a specific line, such as Andersen or Pella.
What to compare before a quote
- U-factor and SHGC of the proposed window
- Warranty terms on the frame, glass and installation
- How the company handles measurement and installation
- Certifications and stats shown on the company profile
Each company profile on GlassBase includes an about section, certifications and contact details, and quote requests go through the profile directly. If the existing windows only need new glass, hardware or seals, window repair companies are listed separately.
Before you contact anyone, run the energy efficiency calculator for your ZIP code. It estimates whole-window U-factor, SHGC and heating and cooling savings from NREL TMY3 climate data and produces a PDF report, so you can compare quotes against the same performance target. The guides section covers ENERGY STAR and NFRC labels in more detail.
