Chelsea Building Products Opens 228,000-Square-Foot Facility in Pennsylvania
Chelsea Building Products has cut the ribbon on a new 228,000-square-foot facility in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. The opening marks one of the more significant capacity investments in U.S. vinyl fenestration in recent years and positions the operation for a deeper domestic manufacturing footprint.
The new building — designated Chelsea Building Products East — currently supports warehousing, product shipping, and lamination operations. Company leadership says the expanded logistics infrastructure is designed to reduce lead times and move products to customers faster.
The site, however, is built with more in mind than its current use. According to aluplast, long-term plans call for relocating extrusion capacity from the company's existing Oakmont, Pennsylvania plant to the Westmoreland County location. Extrusion is the process by which PVC compound is shaped into window and door profile systems — the structural backbone of vinyl windows and doors.
Additional planned site capabilities include on-site raw material storage, in-house compounding — the blending of PVC resin with additives to produce extrusion-ready material — and rail access for inbound raw materials. The site also allows for up to 200,000 additional square feet of future expansion.
The investment comes at a moment when domestic production capacity carries particular weight in the U.S. window and door market. Supply chain disruptions, shifting tariff structures on imported materials, and sustained demand from both residential construction and the retrofit market have pushed manufacturers to reassess their sourcing and production strategies.
For vinyl window and door fabricators, proximity to domestic profile extrusion can meaningfully affect delivery schedules and inventory costs. Bringing compounding on-site adds another layer of vertical integration, reducing dependence on external resin suppliers at a time when raw material availability remains a recurring concern.
aluplast, headquartered in Karlsruhe, Germany, supplies PVC profile systems used in the fabrication of thermally efficient windows and doors across global markets. Chelsea Building Products serves as its U.S.-based manufacturing and distribution arm.
