Maco Adds Oil Damper and Faster Motor to Its A-TS Automatic Door Lock
Maco has added a locking damper and an updated motor to its Protect A-TS automatic door lock, the company reported. The changes target noise and unlocking speed, two everyday complaints about self-locking entry door hardware, and they can be retrofitted to existing installations.
The Salzburg, Austria-based hardware supplier describes the locking damper as an oil pressure damper. It reduces the noise the lock makes when it engages automatically after the door closes. Maco says the damper does not affect the lock's operational reliability. It can be retrofitted at any time, and an optional version includes a built-in day release feature.
The optional retrofit motor now unlocks the door in one second. Maco says that is significantly faster than before. The company also reports improved motor acoustics. The motor adds fully automatic opening to the standard key-operated unlocking. A motorized day release is also available.
Day release lets someone open the door from the outside by pushing it, with no key. A mechanical control on the face plate activates it. Maco suggests it for doors that people use often during the day, such as when children play around the house.
The A-TS locks automatically at three points when the door closes, so users do not need to turn a key. Maco says its three-latch design keeps contact pressure even and helps prevent door warping. The company says it works with timber, aluminum, composite and PVC doors. It is non-handed, meaning one lock fits either swing direction, and it handles sash rebate heights up to 2,900 mm (about 9.5 feet). The rebate is the recess in the door edge that holds the hardware.
For fabricators, the retrofit option means they can add the damper or motor to A-TS doors already in the field. Automatic multipoint locks are also a growing niche as more homeowners expect keyless convenience. Maco did not say whether the new features will be offered in the U.S. market.
