REHAU Brings New NUVERA Hung and Slider Window Platform to U.S. Market
REHAU Window Solutions is introducing its new NUVERA™ hung and slider window system to the U.S. market, according to the company, giving window manufacturers a platform that combines glass-fiber reinforced profiles with a simplified uPVC architecture. REHAU says the approach can support larger glazing areas and slimmer sightlines while allowing fabricators to use standard uPVC processing equipment.
The company made NUVERA’s first U.S. presentation at GlassBuild America in Las Vegas. REHAU developed the system for residential and light commercial applications in North America.
NUVERA comes in single-hung, double-hung, single-slider and fixed configurations. The platform combines REHAU’s RAU-FIPRO® glass-fiber reinforced composite technology with its RAU-FLECT Low-E technology.
A key change involves the meeting rail, where REHAU uses glass-fiber reinforced RAU-FIPRO profiles instead of conventional metal reinforcement. The company says this structural approach provides enough strength to support larger window sizes, more glass area and slimmer profiles.
“NUVERA combines a new structural concept with a practical system approach for the North American market,” said Randy Hoover, head engineer at REHAU Window Solutions and one of the engineers involved in the system’s development. “We developed it to give fabricators, builders and architects more flexibility while simplifying manufacturing and installation.”
REHAU also designed the platform around a smaller set of components. The system uses five-chamber frames and three-chamber sash profiles, along with fusion-welded corners. It supports triple-pane insulating glass units (IGUs) and runs on standard uPVC fabrication equipment, according to the company.
Reducing the number of components and limiting the use of traditional metal reinforcement could also affect inventory requirements. REHAU says the approach can reduce material handling and the amount of warehouse space manufacturers need for system components.
The company also incorporated installation options for several construction conditions. NUVERA includes a nailing fin and installation strap groove, while manufacturers can specify an optional J-channel. Those features allow fabricators to use the same platform for new construction, replacement and siding-related applications.
REHAU reported performance results from initial testing and evaluation across water resistance, structural performance and thermal efficiency. Fixed configurations reached reported structural ratings of up to DP90, while single-hung units reached up to DP55 LC and single sliders up to DP30. DP, or design pressure, indicates the pressure a window can withstand under specified test conditions.
The company also reported water performance up to DP100 in some configurations. Exact ratings can vary by window type, size, glazing and configuration.
For thermal performance, REHAU says simulations produced a U-factor as low as 0.22 with double-pane IGUs. U-factor measures heat transfer through the complete window assembly, with lower values indicating lower heat transfer.
