PriWatt Bets on Smart Glass as Demand for Privacy-on-Demand Grows
Smart Glass Tech is expanding the reach of its PriWatt switchable glass as architects, developers and building owners look for alternatives to blinds, curtains and fixed privacy barriers. The company sees growing potential for glass that can provide privacy on demand while maintaining natural light and clean interior designs.
The company is now increasing its focus on the residential window market through a collaboration with Kömmerling USA, a Huntsville, Alabama-based manufacturer of PVC-U window and door systems.
The collaboration integrates PriWatt Dye Liquid Crystal (DLC) technology into Kömmerling PVC-U window systems. The companies aim to provide a practical switchable window solution for new construction and retrofit projects.
DLC technology was originally developed for transportation applications that require consistent optical performance under demanding conditions. Its integration into a residential PVC-U window system brings the technology closer to a conventional window format that fabricators, builders and installers already understand.
For homeowners, the main benefit is straightforward: the window can change from clear to private on demand without blinds or curtains. For architects and builders, the system can preserve clear sight lines while adding privacy as an integrated window function.
Anton Yerkeyev, founder of Smart Glass Group, describes the shift as a change in how the industry approaches privacy. Rather than adding blinds or curtains after construction, he sees an opportunity to make privacy part of the glazing itself.
